Screen Magazine - Screen Magazine: Vol. 29, Issue 22 - Index

Earlier this month, our nation did an
about-face and elected what most
would have considered impossible
only a decade ago – a minority to
the highest office in the land and,
for that matter, the world. We are a
nation made up of “the people for the
people,” and that means everyone
and every circumstance. Change is
upon us, and we can once again
create a new nation as we do every
four years. President-Elect Barack
Obama symbolizes an optimism desperately needed in a time when the
anxieties of the day have taken precedence over the creativity our industry
thrives to foster.
I, like many of you, am inspired to get up and march on despite the challenging
economic conditions facing all of our businesses. Our industry represents the
very creativity and ingenuity that great people like President-Elect Obama so
eloquently speak of. It is time for us to rebuild, rekindle and refocus ourselves
on the prosperity we all are capable of creating. As publisher and editor of this
magazine, I intend to do just that.
SCREEN will be turning 30 years old this January, and while we’ve seen many
spikes in our economy over three decades, we have rolled with the punches
and we are still standing, albeit wiser for the wear. What our company faces is
not unlike what many of the companies we serve face every day – a challenge
to re-invent ourselves and continue to move forward, ever-vigilant of the brand.
Together we can succeed and it is my hope that, no matter where our companies
have been, our futures can be a common one.
You will notice several changes within the magazine, our website and our
regular featured columns in the coming weeks that are designed to improve
our publication and accommodate our growing readership both online and
in print. With 2009 in our sights, we will be adding events that are designed to
be engaging and informative without losing the intimacy so many of you have
come to know when dealing with SCREEN.
I look forward to interacting with all of you in the years to come and have a
renewed sense of optimism in light of the “Change” coming in 2009. We will
be publishing a 30th Anniversary issue on January 12th, which will highlight the
last three decades. If you or your company would like to be included in this
collector’s edition, contact us before our December 31 deadline.
Enjoy!
