AWARD-WINNING NEW WAVE ENTERTAINMENT DESIGNS NEW MAIN
TITLES
The Studio at New Wave is the award-winning creative marketing
and design division of New Wave Entertainment. Recent broadcast
design includes opening title sequences for the TV “Most
Outrageous Moments” for NBC and the award-winning “Sports of
the 20th Century” for HBO. The Studio’s main title design for “Sports
of the 20th Century” has won a Silver Create Award in the Motion
Graphics, Elements of Motion, Use of Graphics category.
The winning design will be featured in the Create Awards 2008
Winners Book and online showcase www.thecreateawards.com.
The title was also recently featured on Autodesk’s “Best of the Best
2008” reel, which premiered at this year’s NAB in Las Vegas.
The title design, a
golden timeline that
takes the viewer on
a nostalgic journey
of iconic moments
in sports history,
debuted on HBO
in February in front
of the docu “Joe
Lewis, America’s
Hero…Betrayed.”
The modern
timeline design
was constructed of
elongated chrome
bars, framing devices and numbers representing key dates in
history. The color palette was a combination of black and gold
to give the sense of grandeur and elegance for the nostalgic
memories while the weaving camera helps to convey the passing
of time.
The Studio at New Wave also recently designed the main
title sequence for the new season of NBC’s “Most Outrageous
Moments.” The assignment was to create an updated, modern
animated open for the third season of the series. The challenge
was to make all of the sections of the sequence modular so that
new tease clips, with different lengths, could be changed for each
episode.
Playing off of the idea that home movies are now recorded
and viewed in a variety of places, the Studio team created five
locations (sections) in which the “Most Outrageous Moments” clips
could be played. Each location was shot in HD using a Panasonic
HVX200 camera, and included a billboard on Sunset Boulevard,
the jumbotron on Universal CityWalk, a bank of televisions in a
store window, a billboard in Times Square and a hand-held PDA.
They then created dynamic moves in and out of each location to
achieve a seamless sense of motion.
The actual logo of the show was animated to drop into frame and
onto a generic suburban lawn, cartoon-style, with a loud thud
and shake.
