Screen Magazine - IndexScreen Magazine - Screen Magazine: Vol. 29, Issue 21 - IndexBaked Goods is a long
way from the 12 by 12
room in Santa Monica
where co-founders
Danny Prussmann and
George Loucas started
the company. In just
under three years they’ve
grown and expanded
into a freestanding, twostory
building with a full
staff of editors, visual
effects artists and motion
graphic artists. Having
worked on a number of
high-profile projects from
commercials to feature
films, television and music
videos, Baked Goods has
quickly become a force
to be reckoned with in the
entertainment industry.
Their latest project lands
on the heels of Janelle Monae’s “Many
Moons” as the Baked Goods’ Editorial and
Visual Effects teams, led by Prussmann and
Loucas, join forces again with director Alan
Ferguson for John Legend’s newest Music
Video “Green Light,” featuring Andre 3000.
With both videos shot using the RED camera,
Baked Goods stands its ground, with crisp
editing and stunning visual effects, in the
world of Ultra High Definition.
Prussmann, as lead editor, weaves an intricate web of performance
and deep narrative storyline in Janelle Monae’s debut video,
“Many Moons,” while the VFX team, led by Loucas, brings a
futuristic world of artificial beings and images to life by combining
eye-catching CG elements and subtle 2D enhancements. Barely
taking a breath, the Baked Goods team and Ferguson jump back
from the future to a classy Hollywood house party where John
Legend and Andre 3000 give the “Green Light” for a wild night of
romancing women and dancing ‘til the sun comes up. The edit
leads the viewer to the feel as if they are watching a scene straight
out of the private world of Hollywood nightlife,
while the VFX lend dreamy sequences that elicit
the sense of MGM musicals from ages past.
Utilizing the newest technologies is a must for
Baked Goods. “Baked Goods is one of the few
companies that is constantly developing new
workflows with every new build of the RED camera
and the payoff is an image that is closer to film
than this industry has ever seen.” says Prussmann.
He adds, “It’s a very powerful tool if used correctly
but like most video cameras it has a large variety
of resolutions, frame rates and gamma settings
to choose from. This has made communication
absolutely critical in order to have the project go
smoothly. This takes much of the guess work out
of the post production workflow and allow for a
more streamlined experience.”
