Make Your Office The Best Place To
Work With Clockwork
By Nancy Lyons, CEO, Clockwork Active Media Systems
Everyone likes to win. Whether it’s a three-legged race or a
hotdog-eating contest, the recognition of excellence is exciting
and rewarding.
This year, my Web-design company, Clockwork Active Media
Systems, won the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s “Best
Places to Work Award” for the third year in a row, confirming our
expertise in creating great work environments for our employees.
Incorporating work-life balance values and competitive benefits
into our work environment allows us to hire and retain top talent.
Employees don’t feel the need to change jobs for better hours or
quit when family issues come up – in fact, they want to stay. When
you retain the most qualified employees who really love their work,
you get better results and increase ROI. You even win awards.

and locations to work. However, to make flexible hours work for

or out of the office.
Telecommuting and

capabilities also grant
our employees the
ability to complete their
work from home and
make each person just

walls. Because we built
the right infrastructure
and culture, we know
employee interaction
and project completion function smoothly whether our employees
are in or out of the office. Not to mention employees benefit from
the seamless transition from work to home.
• Invite the fam’: The construction of a family-friendly environment
invites employees’ families into the workplace, instead of pushing
them away. In our office, we institute “Family Happy Hours” and
“Game Nights” into the workplace to ensure all team members
and their families know we appreciate them on a professional and
a personal level. Family benefits like these allow our organization
