Nicholas Celozzi, an
accomplished actor,
writer, producer and
director of numerous
Hollywood films, is back
in town. The Chicago
native returns to the
city to offer acting
instruction in how to
succeed in today’s film
industry while making
Hollywood movies
and helping talented
actors break in from
the Windy City.
Nicholas Celozzi’s Film
Actors Studio will serve
as a platform for actors
in the Chicago area
to the Los Angeles
acting community.
Workshops will address
acting technique
as well as areas that
include earning SAG
or other guild membership. Instruction will also cover auditions,
using the films the Hollywood veteran is currently producing.
“I came back here to do a seminar in the winter,” explains
Celozzi. “When I was here doing the seminar I saw the enthusiasm,
excitement and realism in the faces [of the students] I remember
about myself when I was in Chicago wanting to be an actor,
[which] really inspired me. [I was] then asked about doing a
coaching seminar because I had a really good handle on it, and
that gave me the idea of a film acting class.
“One of the problems I saw with some of the students,” Celozzi
continues, “is they mentioned that [classes] never really changed
[in their] development. The business isn’t about how it was but how
it is. Years ago, you watched ‘Singing in the Rain,’ you see all that
wonderful dancing and for all measures, it’s still brilliant dancing,

but that was the
accepted level of that
particular time. Our
business has evolved
and acting has
evolved. [Producers
and directors] are not
looking for trained
seals; whenever an
actor asks if I want to
see a monologue, I
say ‘no,’ because a
monologue doesn’t
show me you can act,
it shows me you can
memorize. Acting isn’t
something you can
rehearse, it happens
by being active and
aware. That’s what
I’m trying to do with
the class.”
Celozzi explains that
the goal of his course
is “to get rid of the
crutches so, down the line, [the students are] confident enough to
get an audition for a comfortable, honest scene. My job is to get
you strong enough to get you on your feet.”
Celozzi is a highly accomplished filmmaker and actor, having
landed guest roles on television programs such as “The A-Team,”
“Magnum P.I.,” “Hunter” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.” Celozzi is
often recognized by daytime fans as Viper, a recurring character
on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” He has produced more than a dozen
films – three of which he directed – and has appeared in a variety
of features, including “Pretty Smart” with Patricia Arquette and
“The Closer” with Academy Award nominee Danny Aiello.
Celozzi was the recipient of Chicago’s prestigious David Award for
Outstanding Contribution to the Entertainment Industry for a Person
Under Age 35. He also earned a Southern California Motion Picture
Council award and the Silver Scroll
Award from the Academy of Science
Fiction for the film “Slaughterhouse
Rock,” which he produced and acted
in.
