By C.J. Arellano
It’s not everyday you get to say that Snoop Dogg wants
to film a music video at your place. Resolution Digital
Studios (RDS), a Chicago-based facility, recently housed
the shoot for the veteran hip-hop artist’s latest music video,
a Bollywood-themed number titled “Singh is Kinng.”
Snoop Dogg filmed the video
with popular Bollywood actor
Akshay Kumar. “The shoot went
very well, organized, and on
schedule,” RDS Director of
Marketing Diane Mercurio says.
“A lot of extras were involved
so it was remarkable how
smoothly things progressed.
Very professional. The set had
great energy - fun and creative.
Akshay was dancing. Snoop
was laughing and trying to
copy his dance moves. The
colors on the set and the costumes were bright and the
music was loud – it kept everything lively and contributed to
the whole atmosphere, which was a blending of Bollywood
and Hollywood.” (You can view the video, produced by
Cashmere Asia, at http://www.magicnumberfilms.com.)
“Singh Is Kinng” is the title track for the new Bollywood movie
of the same name. (The movie opened in India on August 8.)
The video was filmed earlier this year in an impressive space
of one day. “Our affiliate company, Show Department, had
rigged a lighting truss and set up the green screen prior
to the crew arriving,” Mercurio explains. “Crew began set
up early in the morning, extras shot their scenes during the
midday, then Snoop and Akshay began their scenes in the
later afternoon. They were finished before midnight.”

Snoop Dogg certainly added to the frivolity of the shoot.
“Snoop hung out with everyone during meals and took
photos with people,” Mercurio says.
The video was produced by Cashmere Asia, who brand
themselves as “The entertainment
company bridging the gap between
East and West.” It was directed by
Ted Chung and Todd Angkasuwan,
produced by Morgan Ston and Karan
Wadhera, and lensed by director
of photography Matt Workman. The
song itself was written by a group
called Rhythm Dhol Bass, composed
of three brothers.
