Film Festival (NaFF). Named by Moviemaker Magazine in
2008 as one of the “25 Film Festivals worth the entry fee,”
the Festival will celebrate its 40th Anniversary when it takes
place April 16-23, 2009 at the Regal Green Hills Cinemas in
Nashville.
Over 20 awards with over $15,000 in cash prizes are available
to films accepted to the Festival and placed in competition.
These include the Reel Current Award, presented by Nobel
Peace Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore to a
documentary at NaFF that provides extraordinary insight into
a contemporary global issue. Last year’s winner was Michael
O’Connell’s MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL. Over 22,000 people
attended the 2008 addition of the Festival to watch 215 films
from 38 countries.

MastersFX Names Mark Ballou As Effects Coordinator
MastersFX, one of the entertainment and media industry’s
leading FX shops, has named Mark Ballou to the post of
Effects Coordinator, it was announced by Todd Masters,
founder of MastersFX. MastersFX specializes in prosthetic,
animatronic, and makeup character effects for major
studio and independent feature films, as well as for network
and cable television shows, telefilms and commercials.
In his new post, Ballou will work closely with Mr. Masters
and Effects Producer Dan Rebert on the development and
creation of makeup and character effects for various film
and television projects. Presently, Ballou is working on such
projects as HBO’s “True Blood,” and recently completed
FX work on 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film “The Day the
Earth Stood Still” and New Line’s “The New Daughter.”

SonicPool, one of Hollywood’s leading post facilities,
specializing in audio and video finishing, edit suite rentals,
and full post-production services, has opened its new
“Lake Superior” Room. In keeping with bays that have
“Aquatic/Nautical” themed names, “Superior” offers its
clients Avid DS-HD services for 2K, 4K and HD Finishing. The
announcement was made by John Frost and Patrick Bird,
co-founders, SonicPool, who said, “Many of our clients are
finishing their projects in Avid Symphony HD and Final Cut
Pro HD already, so we felt now was
the time to invest in “Superior” so we
could to continue to fulfill that growing
demand.”
“Superior” has a 16 foot Sony SXRD HD
Projection system, a DS Nitris Dual Boot
system and 5.1 Surround Sound, with
true 4:4:4 technology and 5 terabytes of
storage. HD Online Editor Jason Yanuzzi
is the lead online editor and colorist for
“Superior.”

eatdrink Names Creative Director In
Chicago, Partner In Las Vegas
eatdrink, the Chicago-based integrated production
company, recently announced significant promotions in its
Chicago and Las Vegas offices. These promotions come
as a result of steady growth in both offices and a desire to
continue to deliver cutting-edge creative solutions to its
client base.
Bradon Webb, (27), has been named Creative Director and
will be responsible for eatdrink’s creative philosophy and
approach as well as overseeing the broadcast design and
animation teams. Webb replaces John Dretzka who left to
pursue other opportunities. Webb was hired in 2007 as a
Senior Animator specializing in 3D. Prior to joining eatdrink,
he was a freelance designer/animator for MODE and
Vitamin working on projects for clients including Microsoft,
Nike, Marlboro and Mark Ecko. Webb graduated with a BFA
in new media from the Kansas City Art Institute.

Saatchi & Saatchi Celebrated Its One Year Anniversary In
Chicago
On July 23 Saatchi X, the shopper marketing arm of Saatchi
& Saatchi, celebrated its one year anniversary in Chicago.
This is the company’s fourth office in the United States and
it has grown from eight employees to 40 within one year.
Primary clients include P&G and Frito Lay, and Saatchi X is
