Frontsight Productions. Nehs took some
time out to chat with SCREEN about how
the building of the facility is progressing,
and when we can expect Templar Sounds
to be officially up and running.
Frontsight Productions and Templar Sounds
and Post is a Illinois post production and
sound studio. Located in Chicago’s historic
Old Town neighborhood, Templar Sounds
and Post offers musicians and producers a
1,400 sq. ft. scoring and recording stage, along with a
700 sq. ft. control room.
Separate ADR and ISO rooms with their own control
room allow multiple projects to work and be completed
at the same time. Control room two also has control over
Templar’s Foley stage for creating sound effects, and
with its three editing suites, producers can complete all
of their post production in one convenient location.
The scoring stage also doubles as a
full dubbing stage, the only one of
its kind in the area. With a full THX
certified audio and video design and
Dolby 7.1 surround sound and an 18foot
projection screen, producers can
finish their project for release without
ever having to leave Illinois and take full
advantage of the state’s tax credits.
“We are four weeks into [the build] and we
are a week ahead of schedule,” according to
Nehs. Once it’s finished, Nehs says Templar Sounds will
be able to finish any size film from editing to release,
since it will be equipped with ADR and voice over room
for film, commercials and other projects. In addition,
Templar will house editing suites for any size budget and
any size film with room enough for a full list of studio and
symphony musicians for the perfect score.
More specifically, Templar’s roster of services and
equipment includes: Control Room 1 (780 sq. ft): Euphonix
System 5 console; five Kinoshita speaker monitors;
Capabilities: Recording of band, symphony, etc.; Dolby
5.1 surround mixing and mix down; mastering; dubbing.
Scoring Room/ Dubbing Stage (1400 sq ft): removable
console for dubbing: Euphonix Dual operator system 5
(96 fader - 396 channel); monitor speakers - JBL Theater
THX Certified and Dolby 7.1 surround; 18 foot audio
transparent projection screen; Video HD Projection; 3
ISO booths (Piano, Vocal and 1 misc ISO); up to 40 piece
orchestra.
Control Room 2: console: Digi Control
- Protools; monitor speakers : Genelec
5.1 surround; use: controls the recording
in large ISO room for ADR and VO and
adjoining Foley stage and can be used
for minor 5.1 mixing
Foley: eight pit foley room.
Editing: Suite 1: Avid HD; Suite 2: Finial
Cut HD; Suite 3: Avid Mojo (for low
budget films that cannot afford a full
Avid system but want to edit and then
go into the large suite just for a few
days).
Actual building credits go to designer
Michael Cronin of Michael Cronin
Acoustic Construction (Nashville);
head builder John Smith (Nashville);
and builders John Cygan (Belvidere,
Ill.) and Phillip Staggs (Florence, Al.)
Though the actual build seems to be
going off without a hitch, the problem
now becomes having to turn away jobs
from potential clients who are excited
about Templar’s services, which aren’t
quite available as of yet.
