With offices in the US and UK, digital marketing and
media agency The Viral Factory has hired award-winning
interactive copywriter and creative director Glenn Sanders.
Sanders will serve as Creative
Director for the agency, and
will be based out of its Santa
Monica, Calif. office.
Most recently, Sanders was
Associate Creative Director
at TBWA\Chiat\Day\Tequila
on the Infiniti automotive
account. He managed
a team of interactive art
directors, copywriters and
designers, and oversaw
the development of a
groundbreaking kiosk using
cutting-edge “augmented
reality” technology to allow consumers to interact in real
time with 3D animations of Infiniti vehicles.
“While at Tequila, I worked closely with The Viral Factory
[crew] on several campaigns,” Sanders recalled, “and
the impact they had on our endeavors was powerful.
So I’m extremely excited to be joining forces with them
in this capacity.” At The Viral Factory, Sanders will focus
on fortifying the creative infrastructure and process, and
expanding its interactive capabilities.
“It’s easier to tell compelling stories about brands and
products when you can play with format and execution,”
added Sanders. “If we develop stories based on the central
question ‘Who’s the audience?’ - as opposed to ‘Who’s the
client? ‘- we can draw the viewer in rather than invade their
space. And that’s the ultimate goal of viral marketing.”

Creative director Scott Smith of Chicago-based agency
Element79, who is famous for being named as one of the
three director finalists in the last “Project Greenlight,” just
published his first novel, titled “Like Dizzy Gillespie’s Cheeks.”
As Smith describes, “It’s a good
example of the way the creative
lines of responsibility in our industry
have blurred. As a matter of fact,
they have to blur. I know plenty
of writers who can draw better
storyboards than I can, but all
that does is reiterate that idea is
and will always be king.”

A synopsis: December 1999 is
filled with global uncertainty, but
in Chicago, musician Sam Greene will certainly play piano
at any place that will hire him. Typically, he can count on
his longtime mentor, jazz great Ben Webster, to join him for
a late-night set. Irritable and not just because he’s in his 70s,
Ben leaves the club before playing a single note. The next
morning, Sam is devastated to learn that Ben is dead. As a
result, Sam’s perspective on life takes an abrupt change.
