In round one, hopeful filmmakers tackled the topics of love,
greed, redemption, pain, forgiveness, freedom and energy
in non-genre specific shorts (less than five minutes). The 15
finalists’ films will debut between August 17 and 31, with
final round voting to occur September 1-10. The Doorpost
provides a grand prize totaling $100,000.

Looking Glass Films Welcomes David Nutter
Famed helmer David Nutter has signed with Looking Glass
Films. Known for directing some of the most honored and
high-profile work in Television, including “The Sopranos”
and “Entourage,” Nutter will pursue advertising projects on
a worldwide basis via Looking Glass Films, in concert with
Great Guns London.
Nutter is the Emmy-Award-winning director of HBO’s
acclaimed mini-series “Band of Brothers” and has the
distinction of having all 14 of the television pilots he’s
directed be picked up for series on major networks, and
currently has five shows on the air: “Without a Trace,”
“Smallville,” “Supernatural,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor
Chronicles” and “The Mentalist.”
The director has worked hand-in-hand with Steven Spielberg,
Tom Hanks, Jerry Bruckheimer, James Cameron, McG, and
Laura Ziskin, and won a Golden Globe award as one of
the chief architects of “The X-Files,” having directed 15 of
the program’s episodes during the course of its initial three
seasons.

Chris Wilcha’s “This American Life”
Nominated For Five Emmys
Chelsea director Chris Wilcha is two-for-two with the
Academy, receiving an “Outstanding Direction” Emmy
Nomination for the episode “Escape” from Showtime’s “This
American Life.” This marks the second consecutive time

Wilcha has been nominated for this award; last year he
was nominated for the episode “God’s Close-Up” from the
show’s premiere season.
The 2008 season “This American Life” was nominated for
five Nonfiction Programming Emmys, including Outstanding
Cinematography, Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding
Writing, Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Series. These
nominations, two more last year, confirm the program’s
reputation as one of the most unique and skillfully directed
shows on television.

Elias Arts Promotes Christopher (Kimo) Kemp
To Associate Creative Director
Elias Arts, an original music, sound design and audio identity
production company, has promoted Christopher (Kimo)
Kemp to the position of Associate Creative Director. He had
been Senior Composer. The
announcement was made
in late July by Ann Haugen,
Executive Producer/GM,
Elias Arts.
In his new position, Kimo will
play an integral role in the
creative management of
incoming jobs. Concurrently,
he will continue his successful
songwriting career, writing
music on a daily basis for
top TV commercials, while
also furthering his scope
within the area of scoring
for feature films.
Said Haugen, “Kimo’s talent, hard work and dedication
during the past 17 years continue to be a cornerstone of this
office. He has contributed significantly to our company’s
on-going success for many, many years.”
