3008 Graphics And Effects Sweeten Florida Orange Juice
Healthy. Pure and Simple. Design and visual effects help make
the case for Florida Orange Juice in two spots showcasing the
product in a sensuous journey from pitcher to glass.
The Richards Group tapped 3008 (both in Dallas) on behalf of
the Florida Department of Citrus for two 30-second spots that
celebrate all that’s nutritious and delicious about orange juice.
As simple as pouring a glass of OJ might seem, there’s more than
meets the eye in
“Discover” and
“Every Drop.”
“We began with
beautiful, alldigital
footage
shot in London
by David
Wynn-Jones of
HanRaHan,” says
Gabriel Silva,
agency producer from The Richards Group. An over-sized glass
created for the shoot and slow motion footage help accentuate
the swirls, ripples, and splashes of juice pouring into a glass in
both spots.
Explicit about the nutrients in orange juice, “Discover”
literally blends the nutrient names - “Vitamin C,” “Potassium,”
“Magnesium,” etc. - into the flow of juice as it travels from the
pitcher.
“I used Sapphire plug-ins to make the text appear organic and
to ensure it’s readable as it undulates with the swirling juice,”
says Todd Doane, graphic artist at 3008, who worked with Brent
Herrington, editor and partner; Mark Sullivan, finishing and FX
artist; Jenna Milano, graphics and FX assistant; Matt Cimino,
audio engineer; and Anne Loftis, producer.
“Every Drop” presented challenges as well, starting with the
dissolve and reveal of the orange juice glass. In the dissolve,
the orange juice creates its own free-form shape as it pours
from the pitcher. The glass appears when the last drop of
juice splashes in, requiring tweaking to undue the impact that
reflection and magnification had on the juice’s tonal qualities.
Rotoscoping helped make it all seamless.
3008, a high-end commercial editing boutique located in
downtown Dallas, offers full off-line, on-line, graphics, effects,
and audio services in both standard and high definition formats.
Other recent 3008 projects include spots for McDonald’s
via Moroch, Advance Auto Parts and Home Depot via The
Richards Group, and Mary Kay via Stone Core Films, along with
numerous audio projects and specialty work.
