Executive Director/Head of Direct Marketing

Joy Schwartz is a woman who knows what she wants, and
somebody who has the determination to get it. Currently
executive director and head of direct marketing for Euro
RSCG Chicago, there’s no doubt that Joy is considered one
of Chicago’s most influential women in the advertising and
direct marketing industries. She has climbed her way to the
top with a fearless “can-do” attitude, never willing to settle
for second best.
Joy carries that boldness from the boardroom to the
babyroom – raising her son Dex, 2, as a single working
mother. While the challenges of balancing family and work
are overwhelming for some, not for Joy. In fact, she is the first
to admit that having a baby didn’t slow her down (albeit
resulting in a changed sleep schedule), it made her more
determined to provide a bright future for her child.
Understanding the importance of work-life balance, Joy
worked out a flexible work schedule when her son was
born, working from home a few days per week, so that she
could spend time playing mom, while still running some
of Euro RSCG Chicago’s Fortune 500 accounts. And just
to prove the naysayers wrong, she managed to win two
pitches during the nine-month span she was pregnant.
By clients and employees alike, Joy is known for quickly
identifying a client’s needs and building high-powered teams
that drive breakthrough programs. In 2006, she won and
now leads the Sprint/Nextel merger direct communications.
She also added Sprint’s B-to-B
business to the agency’s roster
in 2007. Under her leadership,
the Sprint account has grown
tremendously over the past
four years. The agency’s work
for this client is often cited
for its creativity and has won
numerous industry awards. And
in 2007 Euro RSCG Chicago
officially became Sprint’s only
direct marketing agency of
record (whittled down from
four) through Joy’s relentless
focus on the business.

Joy joined Euro RSCG in 2003 as VP/Account Director.
Previously, she served at 141 Worldwide as Director of Client
Services where a diverse range of clients, including Kraft
Foods, Oscar Mayer and Microsoft, looked to Joy to help
them improve their online capabilities. Prior to 141, she
served as Director of Strategic Services at ShopTalk, a startup
company specializing in convergence marketing.
Joy graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree
in Journalism and is now working on a PhD in History. She
is a member of Women in Direct Marketing International
and is also involved with the Chicago Association of Direct
Marketing. A Chicago resident, she would like to write
about travel someday, but only if Dex and Henry (her dog)
can tag along.
