SmithGifford (Falls Church, Va.), the multi award-winning, full
service advertising agency, has opened a satellite office in
the renovated canal boat house known as the Lady Byrd
Hat Factory and Boat House near the Turning Basin of
Richmond’s newly constructed Canal Walk in Shokoe Slip.
SmithGifford (named one of the top 10 agencies to work
for in the Mid-Atlantic region by the Wash. Bus. Journal)
enjoys a solid reputation as a creative and growing ad
agency popular with clients and peers alike, and is making
a commitment to existing clients in the Richmond area
including the Virginia Lottery and Brown’s Automotive
Group, a group of 18 dealers, three of which are in
Richmond.
Matt Smith and his partner, Bruce Gifford, have a long history
with Richmond. Smith worked at the now defunct agencies
Peter Wong & Associates, Pistolis, Hall & Hill, and Finnegan
& Agee before moving to San Francisco, Boston and New
York with Chiat/Day, Ammirati & Puris and Hill | Holiday.
He returned to Richmond to become President/Executive
Creative Director of Hawley Martin Partners. When Hawley
Martin merged with Arnold he became Chief Creative
Officer/EVP of Arnold Richmond. When Arnold moved to
Washington, and the Richmond office was closed, Smith
moved too.
Bruce Gifford has also worked at some of the country’s
top agencies, including Hawley Martin Partners, Arnold
Richmond, Goodby Silverstein and Partners, MessnerVetere
BergerMcNameeSchmetterer/Euro RSCG, before returning
to Arnold, after which he and Matt Smith launched
SmithGifford in 2003.
In a continuation of its recent expansion, SmithGifford,
has named Susan Kearney to the newly created post of
Executive Vice President. In her new post, Kearney will
be responsible for expanding the company’s business,
broadening the products and services it offers its current
and future clients, and positioning it in the online/new
media world, in addition to the traditional advertising world
the company currently inhabits. She will work directly with
Matt Smith and his partner Bruce Gifford.
Susan Kearney is a seasoned executive with extensive
experience in sales, marketing and distribution. “Susan’s
expertise in new media will expand our offerings to things
like social marketing, word of mouth marketing, search,
online and video advertising, and viral advertising, among
others. She will give the firm an online new media presence,”
explained Smith.
