called A.I.R. (Advanced Instrument
Research), there is no doubt that
amazing things are on the horizon.
A.I.R. has already released several
powerful and inspiring instruments.
These instruments include Hybrid
(Software synthesizer), Velvet (Electric
Pianos), Xpand (Sample Player), Strike
(Live Drum Module), and Structure
(Virtual Sampler). In fact, I just learned
today of a new toy they are about
to release called Transfuser. I won’t
even begin to describe this one, but
it is amazing and I will be first in-line to
grab this tool.
As if that was not enough, ProTools
has implemented yet another holy
grail of digital audio with the release
of version 7.4 which includes “Elastic
Audio.” In short, with Elastic Audio,
now anything can fit anything in
virtually any tempo and any key.
That is flexibility unheard of in digital
audio just a few years ago, and
in the world of 30-second and 60second
spots - nothing could be
more important than “making it fit!”
So, amazing strides have been made
and Digidesign seems to be taking
no time off in creating some of the
most powerful and inspiring virtual
instruments ever. Now composers
have the ability to let their musical
inspiration fly uninhibited because
ProTools and all of its supporting
tools have made music composition
not only a joy but also a powerfully
creative process with everything at
our fingertips. In fact in our studio
it is all done within the ProTools
environment. Now if only ProTools
was able to check my e-mail without
me needing to leave my mix in
progress! :)
I know this article only scratches the
surface of the capabilities of ProTools,
so I vow to go much deeper in future
columns to further discuss the many
creative possibilities in more detail
and also discuss more about the
amazing tools in the A.I.R. line. Staytuned…
That’s my mix….let me hear yours.
