More Clios Galore!
Director Bart Timmer took home a Gold Clio Award in the
Automotive Category for Volkswagen “Keep It Clean,”
directed through production company, CZAR, NL. Timmer is
represented by Outsider in the UK and US.
In the spot, a proud VW Touareg owner touts the off-road
abilities of the car, but opts not to demonstrate and get the
car dirty - like most, he bought the Touareg for its looks.
Corona “Finishing Touch,” edited by Einar of bi-coastal Union,
captured a Bronze Clio Award in the Editing category at this
year’s Clio Festival. The evolutionary spot, which depicts the
formation of an island from an underwater volcano topped
off with a Corona, has received acclaim not only in the
commercial world, but in the academic community as well.
The creativity and accuracy of the portrayal have inspired
professors at the university level to begin using the piece as
a lecture tool to demonstrate the geological event.
The 49th Annual Clio Awards, one of the world’s most
recognized global awards competitions for advertising,
design, and interactive, was held on Miami’s South Beach
May 16-19.

Director Scotty Bergstein Begins
A New Chapter With STORY
Returning to the place where he began his career, director
Scotty Bergstein has signed with STORY (NY/Chicago/
Santa Monica) for exclusive national representation in
commercials. Bergstein signed his first directing contract a
decade ago with STORY affiliate The Joneses and has been
directing for the past year through FM Rocks, where his most

tremendous versatility over the course of his career and is
particularly well known for his skill at visual storytelling and

Spain, where he shot two spots for Lays tied to the Euro 2008
Soccer Championship. Bergstein has also been pursuing
work in the long-form arena and recently directed a pilot

Ashley Bartell Joins Ravenswork As Director of Operations
Ashley Bartell has joined audio post house Ravenswork
as Director of Operations. The move marks a return for

scheduler. Most recently, she served as the West Coast
sales representative for The
Lodge, a NY/Venice based
music production company. In
her new role, Bartell will oversee
day-to-day operations, including

administration. She will also head
the studio’s marketing effort.
Bartell described her return to
Ravenswork as a homecoming
and said that she wanted to
use her marketing experience to
help the company grow. “People
love the vibe and the mixers
here,” she said. “Robert Feist
and Katherine Morgan gave me

Director Ryan Smith Joins Pogo Pictures
Pogo Pictures (Atlanta) has signed director Ryan Smith for
representation for commercials in the Southeast. Smith, who
initially gained prominence through his work in music videos
for artists such as Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Bo Bice
and Eminem, has recently made a successful transition to
commercials with credits including Bud Light and Goody’s,
as well as promo spots for the TLC series “L.A. Ink.” Last year,
Smith moved from Los Angeles to Nashville and has made
the Southeast a priority of his advertising career.
Even by the standards of the music video industry, Smith got
off to an early start in his directing career. He was just 20
years old when he directed his first video, “Can’t Give It Up,”
for multi-platinum selling Bone Thugs N’ Harmony. Over the
course of the next decade, he directed scores of videos for
many top rock, hip hop and pop acts, including 12 videos
that reached number one on MTV’s popular countdown
series “TRL.” While continuing to enjoy music videos, Smith
began making a concerted effort to crossover to spot work
two years ago.
