With New Possibilities
By Katie Willis
Ever wish you could rewrite a book or
movie? Now anyone has the chance
with the launching of rootclip.com.
The website gives amateur or hobbyist
filmmakers a chance to create the next
great chapter in a variety of storylines.
As for the website, the story
began between two brothersin-law,
Kevin Antoine and Erik
Luchauer, as they wondered
as many often do, “Wouldn’t it
be cool if…?” And so, the idea
for rootclip.com was born!
Here’s how it works: interested
filmmakers go to rootclip.com
to watch the first chapter video and
come up with an idea for the next
chapter. There’s a catch, the same
characters and costumes must be
used for the next part of the story.
Other than that, the mind is free to
dream big.
Not only does rootclip.com let
filmmakers finish the posted story, but
general movie-lovers are also allowed
to participate with the online voting
for the submitted chapter clips. As cofounder
Erik Luchauer put it, we want
it to be a venue where people can
connect. It looks like that goal is already
well on the way to coming true with the
submission of a couple of new chapter
clips.
Filmmakers also
don’t have to
worry about
annual deadlines
with rootclip.com
either. The storylines
run in threemonth
cycles.
And expansion
is coming to the
website much
sooner than
anyone anticipated. Rootclip.com’s
sponsor suggested making multiple
stories to be viewable on rootclip.com.
Then those filmmakers interested in
making a comedy, drama or suspense
video clip will be able to do so. However,
this new possibility has not yet been set
in stone – we can only hope!
The other exciting new possibility is for
all screenwriters out there. An exciting
addition may be a place where
screenwriters can submit script ideas for
the new chapter videos. This certainly
will help with Luchauer’s goal of getting
people more involved with the site.
There is a more serious side to rootclip.
com as well. Besides being a new
opportunity to go out and shoot
something, it also may be the break
someone needs to get into the industry.
Co-founder Kevin Antoine shared how
he hoped it may one day be a place
where those directors and actors
hoping for a break into the film world
just may get it by posting a submission
on rootclip.com.
As Luchauer expressed, the team
behind rootclip.com wants the website
to come to a point where it is taken
more seriously. The co-founders want it
to be a place where people can stay
involved with the story process.
With all these new possible additions
and the successful response from the
public, the brains behind rootclip.com
are also working with a marketing
team out in California. Of course, the
ultimate future goal of rootclip.com is
for people to have fun while writing
and rewriting new possibilities for
storylines. With a bright future ahead,
rootclip.com no doubt has already
accomplished some of its goals.

About The “Golden Trailer Awards”:
The 2008 “Golden Trailer Awards” were
held on May 8th, at the Orpheum
Theater in Los Angeles. The show is
devoted to honoring the creators and
producers of the best feature film
previews seen during the course of
the previous year. Since moviegoers
consistently rate movie trailers as the
most entertaining part of the theatergoing
experience, the “Golden Trailer
Awards” celebrates the craftsmanship
and allure of these potent mini-epics
with a fast-paced awards show whose
frenetic and sometimes irreverent style
is perfect for the post-MTV era.
About Sweet Spot Productions:
Don Scotti and Joe Takats bring
decades of marketing, branding
and promotional experience to their
company, Sweet Spot Productions.
In 2007, the duo was nominated
for two Key Art Awards, for their

for After Dark Films’ “HorrorFest” film
festival. Before launching Sweet Spot,
Scotti spent many years working at
legendary trailer house Kaleidoscope
Films Group, ultimately becoming that

earlier served as creative director for
Miramax Films, where he won four Key
Art Awards.
