“The Express,” starring Dennis Quaid,
is scheduled to shoot here for a couple
months in April. Directed by Gary Fleder
(“Runaway Jury,” “Kiss the Girls”), “The
Express” chronicles the life story Ernie Davis,
the first black player to win the Heisman
Trophy, whose NFL career was cut short
by leukemia. It’s probably safe to assume
Quaid’s playing the coach. More to come.
Grinding the Rumor Mill: The latest
installment of the “Batman” franchise, “The
Dark Knight,” is directed by Christopher
Nolan and rumored to be here this spring or
summer. Then again, I’m pretty sure you’ve
heard these murmurings once or twice
before. I’ll have more news for you – good
or bad – as soon as it becomes available.
“Fred Claus” wraps on Feb. 6 –

Collaboraction and Cone Arts are currently
in post-production on the short film adaptation
of Stephen Cone’s play “Young Wives,”
which was part of Collaboraction’s Sixth
Annual Sketchbook Festival this past summer.
Cone served as director and co-producer on
the recent two-day high-def shoot. Executive
producing is Collaboraction’s Anthony Moseley;
starring in the film are accomplished Chicago
actresses Lindsay Gould and Sandra Delgado.
Open Flame Films is currently in pre-production
for its upcoming first feature, “The
Matchbook Trilogy.” This low-budget film is
set to start shooting in spring/summer of 2007
in and around Chicago. They are currently
accepting resumes/reels for cast and crew.

Hustle & Float: VH1 has been in town
filming “The Springer Hustle,” a reality series
that follows life behind the scenes at “The
Jerry Springer Show.” The half-hour series is
slated to premiere on VH1 Sunday, March 4.
Congratulations to Chicago native Casey
Suchan and her acclaimed documentary, “Rock
the Bells,” which just screened at Slamdance.
“RTB” will be at The Midwest Independent
