Advertisers and broadcasters on the run
in the Midwest have a reason to celebrate.
Filmworkers Club (Chicago) has introduced
a fiber uplink service that promises speed
and efficiency when transmitting highdefinition
footage between broadcast outlets
in cities across the United States.
The new uplink service comes as a result
of Filmworkers’ collaboration with Vyvx,
a leader in providing fiber-optic and satellite
video delivery solutions. Through the
company’s work with Vyvx, clients can
receive uplinked HD footage in such formats
as D5, HDCam and HDCamSR. The
service offers media in any resolution and at
frame rates of either 23.98 or 59.94 fps.
Reid Brody, president of Filmworkers Club,
says that expanding the company’s post-production
services to facilitate faster uplink was necessary
to keep up with the increasing demand
for commercial and long-form HD services.
Filmworkers Club was chosen by Vyvx because
of its impressive HD-focused infrastructure.
The first of its kind in Chicago, the new
fiber uplink service is an efficient and attractive
way for Filmworkers Club to transmit
footage, eliminating the slow process of using
FedEx or courier services to deliver broadcast
spots. The HD service, which can also
transmit standard-definition video and audio,
allows Filmworkers Club to process and uplink
video in as little as 15 minutes. The standard
processing time for clients is one hour.
Advertisers can also reap the benefits of
the new uplink service. Brody says the HD
service will ease the pressure of deadlines,
allowing advertisers to quickly transmit
their commercial spots all over the U.S.
“This is a great option for clients who
can’t wait for overnight delivery,” Brody
said in a press release. “Now they can have
a high quality HD spot sent to New York,
Los Angeles or virtually anywhere else in
the country within minutes.” He also notes
that with Vyvx, clients can purchase various
sizes of bandwidth on an hourly basis.
Brody adds that the uplink service is beneficial
for Filmworkers Club itself, easing media
transfer between Chicago, Dallas and Nashville,
its cities of operation. “It’s an economical way
to work with one another without traveling
to any of the other cities,” Brody says.
Filmworkers Club and Vyvx have already
seen success with the new service. In its first
application, Filmworkers Club transmitted 35
minutes of raw HD news footage to New York
for Voom Networks’ HD News channel. The
footage included material for a news story on
the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl run. (KW)
