Shifts And Revamps
Kansas City-based post-production
boutique Liquid 9 has undergone
several positive changes in 2008, from
a studio expansion and upgrade to
a notable shift in clientele. Earlier this
year, Liquid 9 completely redesigned
its video editing, sound design and
motion graphics suites.
“We knocked out walls and pulled all
the old wiring, then hired a network
architect to design a very efficient
and adaptable workflow network
that now seamlessly connects all our
workstations and gear,” company
owner Chris O’Connor says.
In addition to a physical revamp,
Liquid 9 has also noticed a gradual
change in the flavor of projects they’re
working on these days. Whereas Liquid
9’s clientele had been built on lofty
corporate-driven affairs, these days the
company is handling more offbeat,
quirkier, medium-sized endeavors like
viral videos for the Kansas City Wizards.
“We’re really enjoying these mediumsized
projects,” O’Connor says. “We’re
getting a greater volume of work, and
it really does allow us to get more
creative with each one.”

production arm of Fischer Edit
(Minneapolis), has many services
available to create the ultimate

with Modern Music (Minneapolis) in
order to create a smooth soundtrack

Spy Post Makes The Cut
Following the launch of its new CG
division, Spy Post (San Francisco) has
now added editorial to its current
offerings of post-production, VFX and
telecine. The new division will feature
the talents of Edward Feldman and
Nathan Petty, who have extensive
credits in commercials, music videos,
short films and interactive campaigns.
Feldman and Petty were most recently
with editorial company Umlaut (San
Fran.). Citing their symbiotic working
relationship, the two decided to make
the move together.
“We decided to pursue and propel
our careers jointly,” explains Petty. “It’s
evident in our past collaborations just
how well we complement one another.
As creative partners, we like to bounce
ideas off of each other, and have fun
in the process.”
Feldman is currently working on a new
Oakland A’s package for Eleven, Inc,
and has completed a Microsoft web
film featuring Amy Sedaris through
McCann-Erickson, as well as an Axe
web film featuring David Spade. Petty,
who studied audio recording as an
undergrad, likes to be involved in the
sound design of each project.

Technisonic Ages Well
This year has kept Technisonic busy with
a healthy workload. The St. Louis-based
production house recently completed
spots for Dial “Pure and Natural” Body
Wash, Ponderosa and Purus Vodka.
They’ll also be shooting a spot for Maui
Jim Sunglasses in the coming weeks.
So how has the 80-year-old company
adapted to current trends?
“A notable change in Technisonic’s work
mirrors the industry in general,” says
Mike Stroot, President of Technisonic.
“Technisonic has always produced
varying amounts of corporate projects
but now is actively pursuing them
and providing complete creative and
production management.”
Stroot is also optimistic about
Technisonic’s near future despite the
economy’s gloomy outlook. “The media
tells us that we’re in a recession,” he
says. “Our first quarter of 2008 doesn’t
reflect that but maybe it takes a little
longer to reach us. If so, we’ll be OK
because of the talent on board, our
work ethic and concern for our clients’
success - the same attributes that got
us through the crash of 1929.”
