I was able to travel to Austin, Texas
to witness another year of the
South by Southwest Film and Music
Festival (SXSW) and enjoyed some
great weather and equally great
work. The SXSW festival got its start
in 1987 and has grown to become a
key film festival showcasing the very
best in independent film. SXSW Film
and SXSW Interactive events attract
approximately 11,000 registrants to
Austin every March. If you have never
been to Austin, make it a point to mark
you calendar for SXSW 2009, which

again will be held next March.
Austin is a trendy destination that really
has a lot to offer – beyond the fact that
it is the Texas state capital. The streets
are alive with a great variety of music,
good food and, of course, historic
architecture. After flying into Dallas
first to say “hello” to several industry
friends, and then driving four hours
south to Austin, I took an afternoon to
go just over an hour further south to San
Antonio. Home of Bromley – or is that
supposed to be the Alamo? Well, in
any event, the city is one of my favorite
places to visit in the United States.
The Texas production community has
become a driving force in the industry
and continues to pump out some of
the best work in the free world.
